AN OLD MAN’S OFFER WOULD DIE IN HIS PLACE. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Received April 23, 5.5 p.m.' Melbourne, April 23. Shoals of letters have been received, by the Attorney-General protesting against the hanging of Ross, who was found guilty of the murder of the girl TirV schke.
One is alleged to be from the wife of the real murderer, who alleges she knows that her husband committed the. crime and will bring him up to scratch in a few days. One old man, aged 75, visited the gaol and offered himself as a sacrifice for Ross. He quoted the Bible, saying it 'would be a beautiful death to die for another. He expressed great disappointment when the offer was not en-tertained.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
