Y.W.C.A.
NEW PLYMOUTH HOSTEL. The monthly meeting of the Y.W.C.A. board was held on Thursday, April 13, at the hostel. Present: Mesdames E. A. Walker (chair), W. Ambury, Mac Diarmid, C. H. Weston, Misses Hodder and Roughton. Apologies were received from Mesdames A. Ambury, O. Blundell and Miss Harrison. The president reported that a further £5OO had been paid off to Mrs. Howell on April 5. All the promises, with one exception, have been fulfilled. The board wished to place on record its appreciation of the generous fulfilment of promised subscriptions. Miss Roughton reported that 33 visitors had stayed at the hostel during the month, in addition to 17 permanent girls. Employment had been found for several young women and girls who needed help. It was decided to paint the roof of the hostel. Messrs. Inch and Bellringer had most generously offered to give the material for this necessary work. A sewing machine is another necessity, and this is to be bought. The Singer Co. have offered to give liberal terms. The home nursing talks are to be arranged at the hostel. Miss Gee has consented to demonstrate and lecture. During the war (for its duration) Miss Gee had two large classes of women and girls in Auckland, and it was under her direction that many thousands of parcels were sent to the Red Cross Society in England. All girls who wish to join these classes are asked to send in their names to Mrs. E. A. Walker, Powderham Street, or to Miss Roughton, at the hostel.
