THE RAND REVOLT.

HERTZOG’S PART. By Telegraph.—Press Asen.—Copyright. Capetown, April 13. In the Assembly the Minister of Mines, speaking on the Indemnity Bill, accused Mr. Hertzog of secretly meeting the strikers at Witbank, adding that it was freely stated amongst the strikers that Mr. Hertzog offered them assistance from the Free State. Mr. Hertzog characterised the statement as the grossest lie ever uttered. The Minister of Defence stated that, according to the latest information, those who were killed and died of wounds on the Rand, other than Government forces, totalled 138, and the wounded 287. Approximately 4000 persons were captured, of whom 1200 were detained. In addition to 2130 firearms captured in the fighting 7800 firearms were handed to the police from private houses.
