BRITISH SHIPBUILDING.
CONFERENCE FAILS. LOCK-OUT OPERATES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright London, March 10. The conference between, the council of Shipbuilding, Employers’ Federation, and the committee of the shipbuilding and engineering trades adjourned after three hours. Mr. Allen Smith told the men’s representatives that the latter must accept the employers’ demand regarding managerial functions in the workshops before steps were taken to postpone the issue of the lock-out notices. The position is still critical. The Engineers’ Trade Union has broken off negotiations, and the lock-out notices will become effective at midnight. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn.
