REPATRIATION.

NEW PLYMOUTH COMMITTEE. A meeting of the New Plymouth District Repatriation Committee was held on Friday afternoon. Present: Messrs. C. H. Weston (chairman), W. J. Chaney, T. Furlong, F. L. Hartnell, and the secretary (Mr. A. 8. Allen). An’ absence was received from Mr. H. /R. Cattley. The secretary reported that since the last meeting four loans of £5O each for furniture had been repaid, and that an application for a loan of £2OO to acquire a motor car had been refused by . the Ministerial Board. ' The executive committee's action in granting one furniture loan of £5O and recommending seven others totalling £350 was. confirmed. The cases of 11 returned men suffering hardship through the present low price of produce were considered and indulgences granted. After very careful consideration, and while regretting the necessity, the board decided to take action to recover from three men. Two applications for loans ot £oO each for furniture were recommended for approval. An application tor transportation to England for herself and three children received from the widow of, a returned soldier was recommended for approval subject to eligibility of applicant under the Repatriation Act.
