NORTH TARANAKI COMPETITIONS. SATURDAY’S GAMES. In the "A” grade matches in North Taranaki on Saturday Old Boys beat High School, Inglewood were defeated by Urenui, and Waltara lost to Western Park. The "B" grade matches resulted in wins for Waltara, Western Park, Harbor Board, New Plymouth and Bell Block. “A” GRADE. OLD BOYS V. HIGK'SCHOOL. A two-point win In the first Innings was secured by Old Boys in their match against High School on Saturday. School batted first for 78 (Taylor 19, Hughes not out 15). Old Boys passed this total with 32 runs to spare, the top-scorers being Bewley 45, Bottrill and Papps 21 apiece. In the second innings School had two wickets down before the score was opened, but, thanks to the efforts of I Palmer (23) and Lash (28), the total had reached 51 before the third wicket fell. Stumps were drawn with the total at 61 for five wickets. Bottrill (5 for 26), Osborne (5 for 36), Monteath (2 for 3) and Papps (2 for 13) bowled well for Old Boys, whilst I. URENUI v. INGLEWOOD. In a match which provided rather a close contest Urenui defeated Inglewood by 15 runs at Urenui. Batting first, Inglewood made 58 (Hamerton 14, Starkey 11, O’Byrne 10). Bowling for Urenui, C. Foreman took five wickets for 15 runs. Urenui went in to bat, and at the last wicket wanted 22 runs to win. These were secured as the result of a good stand by Lye and H. Foreman, and the partnership carried the score well over the required number. Altogether Foreman contributed 29 runs, Lye made 11 not out, and P. Sarten 14 also proved a useful bat. Coutts bowled well for Inglewood, as shown by nis* average of six wickets for 25 runs. A second innings by Inglewood produced 37 runs for four wickets, Pullen (15) and Coutts (14) being the principal scorers. Waltara’s innings opened badly with the dismissal of the usually safe batsmen Kingston and Ross for "ducks”,-and the side had three wickets down for 9 runs. The Innings closed for 63, of which Southwell’s display for 35, was the saving feature. The only other batsman to make double figures was W. Foreman (10). Of the Park bowlers, R. Macdonald took seven wickets for 31 runs. The Western Park innings also did not open too favorably, with two wickets down for ten runs. Before the side was dismissed, however, the total reached 66, three runs In front of their opponents. A good display was given by V. Halley, who compiled 28. Good support was also given by H. WESTERN PARK v. URENUI. W’estern Park travelled to Urenui and defeated the home teain in a two-innings match. Urenui batted first, and were dismissed for 13 runs, E. Hoffmann taking seven wickets for 4 runs, and Bullot three wickets for 9 runs. Western Park replied with 103 (Bornden 36, Bullot 32, Rowe 10). Wilson secured five wickets for 25 runs. Urenui, in their second infiings, made 124 runs, and Western Park scored 41 runs for five wickets, thus securing a three-point win.

HARBOR BOARD v. TECHNICAL COLLEGE. Playing at the racecourse, Harbor Board had no difficulty In defeating Technical College. The Harbor team made 79 (G. Carey 26, Fitzpatrick, senr., 12). The College team’s two innings realised only 23. In a second strike Harbor Board made 38 for the loss of one wicket, G. Carey compilnig 23 not out. NEW’ PLYMOUTH “B” v. HIGH SCHOOL 11. In defeating High School II by an innings and 43 runs, New Plymouth l ‘B” scored a 3polnt win. In the School's first innings Stevenson made 17 out of the total of 35. Kinsella secured six of the wickets for 12 runs. New Plymouth compiled 129. Osborne batted well, and ran up a score of 30 not out. Others to do well were Hughes (retired) 21, and Kinsella 18. Bowling for the School, Griffin took three wickets for 31 runs, and Moyes two for 29. The School’s second innings produced 51 (Moyes 14, and Dinniss 12). Of the bowlers for New Plymouth H. Oliver took three wlcketa for 4 runs, and R. Oliver five for 17. BELL BLOCK v. HIGH SCHOOL 111. On the racecourse No. 3 wicket Bell Block defeated High School 111 by an innings and 2 runs, scoring 35, against 21 and 12. Playing for School, Brewster was the only batsman to make double figures against the bowling of O'Donnell and Bishop. Buick, three wickets for 6 runs, and Mahraj, three for 12, were the best of the School bowlers. Of the Bell Block btitsmen J. Jeffrey (10) and O’Donnell (8) were the best scorers.
