MOTOR-CYCLE RACES.

THE NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. FORTHCOMING MEETING. The thrills provided by motor cycle racing have led to a growing popularity of this sport. The many patrons of this class of sport in Taranaki are no doubt looking forward to the New Plymouth meeting, which is to he held on the racecourse on Saturday, the 25th inst. The sum of £155 is distributed in prize money over the eight events on the programme. A blue-ribbon event, the New Zealand middle-weight championship, will be run at the meeting, and should have an influence in attracting prominent outside riders. Another important event is the New Plymouth Handicap, which is endowed with £3O in prizes. It is for class A machines, namely, those capable of one mile in 66 seconds or better. A novice race of five laps gives opportunities for any rider who has not won a speed contest race. The amateur handicap, open to any rider of a stock roadster machine, should also be well supported, and the committee have decided that this shall be a post entry event. Other races on the advertised ’programme should be attractive to riders. The club already are putting arrangements in hand in anticipation for the meeting, and hope to see the track in first-class order. Entries for all events, except the amateur handicap, close on Thursday, the 9th inst., at 8 p.m.
