THE PEOPLE’S. WM. RUSSELL IN “LADY FROM LONGACRE.” William Russell revels in spirited action, and in his latest picture, “The Lady From Longacre,” the Fox production which opens to-night at the People’s, he is given a vast amount of room in which to revel. The people who came to be amused had their fill of pleasure, and those who sought the dramatic found it in abundance. The story does not lag for a moment —a quality that has been evident in most of the Fox productions. George E. Marshall has directed, the play with much skill, and Mary Thurman makes a delightful heroine. A double love motif reaches throughout the story. Of course there is double happiness at the end for the characters—and, it may be added, for the audience as well. A big Sunshine comedy and Fox Gazettes are also on the bill. EVERYBODY’S. LAST NIGHT OF “HALF A CHANCE.” “Half a Chance,” concluding to-night at Everybody’s, is said to be the season’s most gripping and powerful drama. It is a special Pathe feature from the most popular novel of Frederic S. Isham. This is a story of a man who fought against tremendous odds. Mahlon in the star role has a part that suits him exactly. Six feet high with a chest expansion to boast about, a gentleman of culture and refinement, he is aptly proportioned to play the part, first of “Sailor” Burke, then the brilliant lawyer, the man who through sheer force of determination, rose from the depths to fame and honor. Lillian Rich is in the leading feminine role. A big Larry Semon comedy scream, “The Bakery’,” is the second star of this excellent bill of fare. To-morrow’s change presents Edith Roberts‘in a Universal special feature, “Luring Lips,” and Crawford. Kent in a Pathe drama of Pathos and power, “Other Men’s Shoes.”
