QUARRY MEN POISONED. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. Sydney, Feb. 14. Four married men working in a tunnel at the North Goulburn quarry were poisoned toy fumes, probably due to a mixture of chlorate potash and almond oil which was used for explosive puPpses. John M'Caron died after admission to hospital. Herbert Papworth, Frederick Rankmore, and Frank Holdberg are seriously ill. A HEAT WAVE. Sydney, Feb. 14. Mr. Hughes, referring to the Wash- 1 ington Conference, said that it had done all and more than was expected. The end of the suicidal policy between the naval powers had lifted a great burden of expenditure off the shoulders of the war-weary world and ensured peace in the Pacific. LABOR CONFERENCE. Melbourne, Feb., 1.3. Mr. Hughes, criticising the opposition of Labor officials to a round table conference explained that there was no intention to entrap Labor, but it was desired that they should reap the same benefits from tho conference as were reaped by Ireland and at Washington. Mr. Hughes added that, unless the cost of production was reduced, unemployment on a large scale was inevitable.
