INGLEWOOD.

MAGISTRATE’S COURT. YESTERDAY’S SITTING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Feb. 13. Mr. A. M. Mowlem presided at a sitting of the Inglewood Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Thomas Baker, who was charged with failing to pay maintenance for a child, was ordered to pay £9 10s arrears and 10s per week maintenance, in default one month’s imprisonment. William Reed Wheeler, charged with driving without a light, was fined £1 and 10s costs. A land agent's license was granted to Henry Petersen. CIVIL CASES. Judgment for plaintiff by default was given in the following cases: Sutherland Bros. v. John Rowe, £4O 4s 7d and £5 Is 6d costs; Inglewood County Council v. David A. S. H. Kendrick, £2O 17s and £4 7s 6d costs; same v. J. H. Robson, £2 8s Id and £1 17s 6d costs; W. A. Officer v. Gall and Sons, £97 10s and £5 19s 6d costs. Archibald and Stuck (Mr. Thompson) proceeded against M. Atkinson (Mr. Grant) for payment for various trips on the motor 'bus run by plaiutiffs. Judgment was given for plaintiffs for £8 10s and costs. A RENTAL CASE. The hearing was continued of the case adjourned from the last court day in which Hiro a Pounamu (Mr. Standish) claimed £ll6 rental for 48 acres of native land from Robert Horace Phillips (Mr. Thompson). The evidence of various witnesses as to the value of the land and the nature of the agreement between the parties was taken. The magistrate said that an agreement was entered 'into and signed without there being an interpreter present, and this was an annulity. It seemed that the defendant should have paid a fair thing for the rental of the land for the time which he had occupied it, and this he assessed at 10s per acre, which meant that he had just about paid the rental for the land with the money which he had paid to the native on account of purchase money. Plaintiff was non-suited, defendant being allowed costs.
