After eliminating Falkiner and Inman tee professiqpal tournament (the first prize of which is £200) the final heat between Newman and Smith is providing very keen interest, especially as these players will not meet in the championship, which Smith declined to enter. Both adopted safety tactics in the opening stage and afterwards played freel.v. Smith took the lead, being 400 ahead on the secono day. Newman scored 1747 on the third day against Smith’s 710. Newman increased his lead to 900, which Smith on the fifth substantially reduced. The scores are: Newman 6472, Smith 6‘llB. The best breaks were: Newman 440. 276, 270, 233, 218 and 202 (twice) ; Smith 225, 210 and 362 unfinished.
