AN AUCKLAND FIRE.
PROMPTLY CHECKED. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Feb. 11. A fire on the premises of John Burns and Co., hardware merchants, at 8 o’clock this morning resulted in damage roughly between £lOOO and £2OOO, mainly by smoke and water. The brigade’s prompt action saved what threatened to be a disastrous conflagration. The fire was caused by the light from a gas jet spreading along the pipe up two storeys and igniting inflammable material in the vicinity.
