MATCHES AT MELBOURNE. By Telegraph.— Assn —vopvrlght. Received Feb. 12, 5.5 p.m. Melbouorne, Feb. 12. The exhibition tennis contests were continued yesterday. Despite intense heat the play was of a very high order. In an exciting singles match Anderson beat Patterson 6—4, 4—6, 2—6, 6—-3, 6—4. Hawkes beat Thomas 4—6, 6—o, 6—l. In a doubles match Patterson and O’Hara Wood oeat Brookes and Anderson 6 —l, 6—4. OTAGO v. CANTERBURY. K' By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, Feb. 11. The lawn tennis match Otago v. Canterbury commenced in excellent weather conditions. In the combined doubles Canterbury proved much superior, winning five of six sets and scoring ten games to four. Black and Miss Smith were the successful Otago paii. STRATFORD v. ELTHAM. A B. team representing the Stratford Methodist Club played the Elttain B. team on the Eltham Club’s courts on Thursday afternoon, and some very enjoyable games were witnessed. The result of the match was a win for Eltham by 17 sets to 7, fhe games being 174 to 136.
