WEST END SCHOOL.

MEETING OF THE COMMITTEE. A meeting of the West End School Committee was held last-night. Present: Messrs. J. S. S. Medley (chairman), A. Coad, J. Brokenshire, J. Lobb, T. Petty, J. Hawker, J. Garcia, and W. H. Broome (secretary). It was resolved to vote £2O towards the purchase of books for the school library. The headmaster reported that for the wFek ending February 3 seventy-seven pupils had been withdrawn and' tnere were 83 admitted, leaving 598 on the roll. With those admitted that day there were over 600 on the roll. The numbers in each class were: Standard 6. 60; standard 5, 65; standard 4, 77; standard 3, 86; standard 2, 76; standard 1. 73; infant department, 162. Mr. Smith, temporary third assistant, succeeded Mr. Marshall in standard 5; Miss H Tracey. Canadian “exchange teacher,” takes the position of fourth assistant vacated by Miss Bullard, and has

C charge of standard 3; Miss Hodder has § been appointed temporarily to fill the ■ new position of ninth assistant; Misses ; Olson and Lawrence (pupil teachers) •. and Jones (probationer) succeeded i Misses Lindop. Boyde and Pitcarthly. [ Two of the school pupils, Leonard Tuf- ’ fery and Venetia Madsen, were successc ful in securing junior scholarships, t whilst three other candidates secured ! junior free place. —The report was 5 adopted.
