CLIFTON FOOTBALL CLUB.

BIG SPORTS GATHERING TO-MORROW. The Clifton Football Club is determined to make its sports gathering to-morrow the event of the season, and can confidently look forward to the support of the public. The latter have a pleasing recollection of the excellent management of last year's meeting, and recognise that the club is raising the fund for the purpose of encouraging sport in the town and district. The officials of tte club have always made that their primary aim, and it is mainly owing to their efforts that the Clifton football teams have In late years always taken such a prominent paftt in Taranaki Rugby. They have effected considerable Improvements to the grounds, including the fencing off of tte arena and the laying down of a specially prepared 135 yards grass track, on which the Sheffield Handicap will be run. Complete arrangements have been made for the flagging of the course, etc. The races promise to be very interesting, as the best of the Taranaki runners will be competing with runners from Blenheim, Wellington, Feilding, and T&ihape, but the handicapper appears to tave well concealed the winners. The cycle races include all the pick of the Taranaki men who have been racing in South Taranaki, also Adlaon and MaGregor, of Auckland, Atkin, of Palmerston North, and others. The fields are so large that the hhlf-mile and mile will be run tn heats. In order to enable patrons from south to catcti the afternoon train home the running and cycling events will be finished early, leaving events such as kicking the football, etc., to the last. Thoroughly efficient officials have been appointed, so that there will be no delay. The catering and other accessories that contribute to the enjoyment of the public are in good hands.
