FACTORY HANDS’ WAGES.

(To the Editor.) Sir, —I seriously think it is quite time dairy factory directors considered what can be done in the way of lowering the wages of factory hands. With cheese and butter at pre-war prices, something must be done to lower the cost of manufacture. or our pay-out for this season will not be sufficient to make both ends meet by a long way. Assistants are at present getting up io £2O per month and allowances. At the same time the majority of farmers are struggling for an existence. In many cases these cannot meet their interest, to Say nothing of the store bill . The wages of milkers and farm hands have been reduced by nearly half. Why should not the factory employees have their wages reduced also? —I am, etc., PRODUCER. Warea, Jan. .28.
