GENERAL ITEMS. Jan. 30. A large number of Stratford people journeyed to the Plyihputh beach yesterday and spent an enjoyable day. One party of about forty left Stratford by motor lorry a few minutes after eight o’clock, and had g Jolly time on the beach near the breakwater, and six or seven car-loads of Stratford people also went to the same spot. Going to picnics by motor lorry has been very popular amongst the younger people here this summer, and the Mountain, Opunake and New Plymouth have been visited by many merry parties during the past few months. A visitor to Stratford recently expressed surprise that the local Town Hall should stand nex;t to an old rubbish dump, and it certainly seems as if the public meeting place of the town should be on a site of more prepossessing appearance than it is. The wilderness which meets the eye of the stranger who visits the vicinity of the Town Hall is not at present calculated to give him a good opinion of the town or of those who govern it.

Dr. D. Steven returned to Stratford on Saturday evening, after a lengthy visit to Great Britain.

The furnishing of the new Technical School at Stratford has been the subject of representations made to the Minister of Education (Hon. C. J. Parr) by Mr. R. Masters, M.P. The. sum of £4OO is already available, but a further £6OO is required for the fitting up of the science laboratories. The Minister has expressed sympathy with the request.

Account books, duplicate books, letter files and typewriter supplies fully stocked; paper and envelopes a speciality.
