ELTHAM.

TARANAKI LOCAL BODIES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltham, Jan. 30. At the Taranaki local bodies meeting at Eltham to-day the following council representatives were present: Eltham County Council, Crs. Belcher, Messana and engineer; Inglewood County Council, Cr. J. B. Murdoch; Taranaki County Council, Crs. Connett and Morton; Waimate West County Council, Cr. McPhillips and engineer; Clifton County Council, Cr. R. H. Pigott; Eltham Borough Council, His Worship the Mayor. An apology was received from Cr. Walter, on behalf of the Stratford County Council. The delegates appointed at the last meeting to interview the Premier and other Ministers relative to the proposed amendments to the Local Bodies Finance Bill, and in regard to county insurances, reported favorably. A resolution was passed that it be a recommendation to all affiliated bodies to reduce wages to all employees (borough employees excepted) by one shilling per day, the reduction to operate from April 1, 1922, and to be for an eight-hour worked day.

The by-law committee was empowered to draw up regulations for the speed of heavy traffic, and with power to act in regard to the suggested legislation.
