LAWN TENNIS.
TARANAKI C&ANTPIONSHIPS. TOURNAMENT IN FEBRUARY. The annual Taranaki lawn tennis championships and handicap tournament will be held on the New Plymouth club’s courts on Thursday, February 16 and two following days. Eight grass courts will this year be available for play, and some good tennis will be seen, as players are expected from most parts of the North Island, including several who were prominent at the recent Dominion championships at Christchurch. Tne championship events include men’s open singles and doubles, ladies* nnen singles and doubles, and combinA doubles. The handicap events include men’s open singles in two grades, as well as the other events as in the championships. It is hoped that last year’s championship winners will be here to defend their titles. The tournament is being run by a committee from the New Plymouth club, and is authorised by the Taranaki Association and tne New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. The Wairarapa tennis tournament concluded this morning. Following are the results of the championship events: Men’s Doubles. —K. J. Walker and M Cowper beat S. Gawith fc & n <l C. Cluff 6-3, 7—5. Combined Doubles.—K. J. Walker and Miss Wellwood beat S. Gawith and Miss Travers 7— 5. 3—6, 6—2
