CROQUET.
DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegranh.—Press Association. Palmqrston N.. Last Night. The annual Dominion croquet championship meeting, which commenced here on the 20th inst., is now in its concluding stages. Fine weather has prevailed throughout, enabling the tournament to conclude earlier than anticipated. Results:— Open championship.—Final: A. G. F Ross (Christchurch) • beat S. McCullough (Christchurch) 2—o. Mixed doubles championship.—Final Ross and/ Mrs. Murray Aynsley beat MeCulloifgh and Mrs. Maddren 26—IS.
Semi-finals in the ladies’ championship singles.—Mrs. Tiffen beat Mrs Hogan; Mrs. Johnson boat Miss Bram. For the final of the handicap singles the winner between Miss Ilesketh and Mrs. Piteaithley will play Ross.
The semi-finals of the mixed doubles handicap are. —Mrs Clarkson and Coltman and Mrs. Perry and Caughley; Mrs. Macrae and Stratton and the winners of the game between Mrs. Richardson and McCullough and Mrs. Johnson and M. Aynsley. All the uncompleted games were scheduled for to-morrow, but heavy rain to-night makes a postponement probable.
The meeting of the Croquet Council to-night decided to locate the next Dominion championship’ tournament at Auckland, commencing as near January 20 as possible, and the next North Island championship in Palmerston North. Officers elected were: President, Mr. R. Caughley (Wellington); vice-president, Mr. E. J: Ross (Canterbury). Mr. C. A. Ferguson (Palmerston North) was reelected
