Through travellers and the people of the district are being inconvenienced greatly by the breaking of the Whenuakura Bridge. Mr. E. Dixon (Patea) stated in the House of Representatives to-day that the Railway Department was being blamed for the delay in meeting the difficulty. A footbridge had not yet been erected, although the flood that wrecked the bridge occurred a week ago. The Minister for Railways (Mr. Guthrie) replied that there had been no loss of time by the Department. The plans for the renewal of the bridge were proceeding as rapidly as possible and he thought that the restoration of through railway communication was now only a matter of days.
