A HERESY HUNT.
THE CHARGES LAPSE. By Telecraph.—Prera Aun —CopyrlChL Received Jan. 8, 5.5 p.m. London, Jan. 7. The Bishop of Oxford refuses to try the Rev. H. D. Major, formerly of New Zealand, against whom allegations of heresy were made. The matter thus lapses.—Aus.N.Z. Cable Assn.
A recent London cable stated: The Bishop of Oxford has appointed a commission to inquire into allegations of heresy against the Rev. H. D. Major, formerly of New Zealand. Replying to a letter by Canon Peter Green, of Manchester, Mr. Major said his view of the Resurrection did not include the survival of any physical integument—the Resurrection was a spiritual, not a physical event.. It is interesting to mite, writes thk Masterton correspondent of the Post, that the Rev. H. D. A. Major, against whom fhe JSishop of Oxford appointed a commission to inquire into heresy charges, is a brother of Mr. A. C. Major, the well-known Masterton solicitor. His daughter is at present on a visit to the Dominion, and is staying with Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Major-at Upper Plain. The Rev. H. D. A. Major is a New Zealander. He graduated at Auckland University College and afterwards took holy orders. He has been in England for some years, and has won renown as a preacher, having had the honor to preach both at the Westminster Abbey and St. Paul’s. At present he is at Oxford, where he is principal of the Ripon Theological College.
