THE PLUNKET SHIELD. AUCKLAND BEAT OTAGO. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, Jan. 3. The cricket match, Otago v. Auckland, was resumed in fine weather. At 11.30 Otago had two wickets down for 58. At the luncheon adjournment Otago were all out for 124.

The Plunket Shield match, Otago v. Auckland, was won by Auckland by 198 runs. Scores: Auckland, 298 and 178; Otago, 154 and 124.

WELLINGTON BEAT CANTERBURY.

Wellington, Last Night,

In a Plunket Shield match Wellington defeated Canterbury by eight wickets. The conditions for play were excellent. The visitors’ second innings produced 127 (Blunt 54 being the most successful batsman). Requiring 177 to win, Wellington accomplished the task for the loss of two wickets. The innings opened quietly, and improved later. Hiddleston scored 41 before being caught and bowled by Evans. Dempster gave little trouble. Baker and Lambert secured the required runs (Baker not out 63, Lambert not out 60).

THE HAWKE CUP. A WIN FOR NELSON. Marton, Last Night. Resuming to-day the Hawke Cup contest Rangitikei in their second innings made 135 (Cameron 51, Broad 20 not out, R. McKay 18). This left Nelson 87 to get to win, which they did with the loss of two wickets (Neale 42 not out, Fletcher 30, M. Eden 15 not out). Bowling for Nelson the best bowlers were Newman, four for thirtyone, Hull three for 36, Neale two for 24. For Rangitikei R. McKay took one wicket for 30, C. Burgess one for 22.

WANGANUI v. N.S.W. TEACHERS.

Wanganui, Last Night,

The match New South Wales Teachers v. Wanganui was drawn. Wanganui made 138 (Williams 50, Wood 38, Stapleton 14). The visitors replied with 280 for eight wickets (Golding not out 126, O’Neill 60, Taylor 22, Watson 19). Holland took three wickets for 53' and Treadwell four for 78.
