CRIME SENSATION IN BERLIN. A GANG’S RICH HAUL. By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyrlgtt. Received January 1, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, Dec. 31. The most sensational raffles case in the history of German crime resulted in the arrest of five women and two men, who were caught with £60,000 worth of stolen goods. The is a woman called “Dashing Dora.” She has been, twice divorced, and recently married a youth of twenty. The arrested ir elude Dora’s» sister, Dora’s daughter, and Morvilius, a merchant, Morvilius’ wife, and Louise’s husband. Also implicated, but not yet arrested, are five well-known officials and the director of a department engaged in the sale of German war material. The gain in booty included a golden coffee sei oi thirty-two pieces, valued at £l5OO. which they carried off from a shop. They went to shops equipped with leather belts fitted with inner hooks, to which they attached valuables as they passed through the shops. Finally Dora and her sister fell under suspicion of a sales girl in a luxury shop, but they managed to bluff the manager Next day their husbands flashed thousand mark notes in the manager's faco and compelled him to give a written apology. . The manager, later being struck by the youthfulness of the husbands as compared with their wives, telephoned to the police, who raided their flats, and found china, jewels and other valuables. Investigations showed their depredations extended over a of years, and their thefts totalled £250,000. The crimes were made possible owing to wholesale corruption among the police. —Aus.-N-Z.
