INGLEWOOD.
(From. Our Own Correspondent.) December 29. The reception given to-day to the Ponsonby Boys’ Brass Band, which arrived by the 9.6 a.m. train from New Plymouth, was as hearty as it was spontaneous. After giving some musical selections the boys were conducted to the baths, which, if never before, on this occasion thoroughly justified their existence. The members of the band apparently enjoyed the bathe, and certainly proved themselves to be a fine manly crop of young Maorilanders, well developed physically, well disciplined and a credit to the land of their birth. Their visit was very highly apreciated and hopes are expressed on all sides that they will coma again with better forewarning, and if possible a longer stay. After their visit to the swimming bath the band assembled at the rotunda at H a.m. and from then till noon gave the citizens such a treat of music as seldom falls to their lot. At noon or thereabouts the lads were shepherded to their wellearned refreshments, arrangements having been made whereby they were suitably entertainer! at Mr. W. H. Eagar’s Coffee Palace and Mrs. Howell’s dining rooms. Later in * the day the band left for Stratford.
