COUNTRY MAIL SERVICE.
ARRANGEMENTS FOR NEW' YEAR. Contracts for the carrying of mails in country districts around New Plymouth expire at the end of the year, but the postal department has completed satisfactory arrangements for the carrying on of this work in the coming year. Some difficulty had been experienced in regard to certain districts, in winch the revenue received by the Department was not sufficient to warrant them paying the amount, asked for by contractors for the maintenance of a daily service. In these cases the position .has been met by reducing the service to certain days in the week, principally in the bad months of the year, when some of the back country roads are difficult to negotiate. This has been the case with the Waitara-Awakino service, which will be maintained as at present for the summer season, but from May to November will be run thrice weekly, on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
