PRODUCERS’ PROBLEMS.
MEAT POOL SUPPORTED. A SUGGESTED LEVY. By Telegraph—Press Association Christchurch, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the North Canterbury Farmers’ Union to-day the following resolution was carried: “That the executive welcomes the efforts of the Legislature in its proposals to deal with the present slump in the meat market. We recognise that something must be done at once to meet the present dangers and difficulties that are always present in State undertakings, but we congratulate the Government on taking in hand the most urgent business, and trust it will be beneficial, not only to farmers, but to the whole Dominion.” It was decided to support the following resolution from the South Canterbury branch: “That this branch agrees to the suggestion that the Government should • put a levy of one shilling per 100 on sheep and one penny per head on cattle, this levy to be collected by the Government and handed to the Producers’ Committee in Wellington to enable them to establish boards in London and New Zealand in order to look after the Dominion's interests at both ends. i It was stated that the Hon. W. Nosworthy had announced that arrangements were being made at the present time to ship the first of three million bushels of the new season’s grain. It was decided to congratulate the Minister on the action he was taking.
