Queensland made 151 for four wickets in their second innings (Sheppard not out 54, O'Connor 28). SOUTH TARANAKI MATCHES. In the South Taranaki competitions on . Saturday Midlands defeated Kaponga at Hawera by 197 to 123. Batting first Midlands made 197 (Neilson 75, Beechy 28 and Oakes 24). Kaponga, in their first innings, compiled 74 (Power 11, Priest not out 8), and in the second 49 (Mair 17 and Beechey 7). Bowling for Kaponga, Mair took two wickets for 43, Thomas one for 54, and Priest three for 44. For Midlands, in the first innings, Worrall took six for 23, Fogarty two for 4, Beectiey one for 19, and Nichol one for 6, and in the second Innings Nichol two for 18, Oakes five for 14, Worrall two for 8, and Beectey one for 0. Manaia B met Hawera B at Hawera in the second round of the shield fixture; and defeated them bj’ six wickets and six r runs. Hawera. in their first innings, made 22, Cosgrove taking five wickets for 7 runs, and Kelly five for 15. In the second they were more successful, making 76 (Mahoney not -.iut 30, Lay 15). Cosgrove again took five wickets for 26 and Kelly four for 29. Manaia knocked up 81 in the first attempt (Cosgrove 37, Daley 27), the wickjets falling. Grant one for 30, Lay none for 13, Groves two for 18, Jones six for 16, and Davies one for 4. The second innings resulted in 24 runs for five wickets (Crosgrove not out 10). Jones , took four wickets for 12, and Groves one for 12. Eltham batsmen were in good form against Manaia, at Eltham, and secured a somewhat easy victory. Batting first Eltham made 104, and Bain, C. Little and Colo scored 81 between them. Manaia responded with only 54, Cole and Bain securing the wickets at an average of five runs per wicket, in a secuna knock Eltham made 106 for three wickets (Marsh 34, Bain 23, Grenfell 16, Walker 19 not out, and C. Little 10 not out). Playing at Okaiawa, Excelsior secured a two-point win over Okaiawa by 148 to 86. A feature of Excelsior's innings was Mills' score of 68, including three sixers ana six fours. The best, scores for Okaiawa were put up by Slinger (23) and Barclay (11). Bowling for Excelsior McPherson took four for 13, Machin three for 20, Pratt two for 12, and Brown one for 12. For Okaiawa Penny took four for 38, Harrison four for 70, Slinger one for 15, and Smith one for 4. Playing on Okaiawa made 106 in their second innings.
