Racing writers are not disposed to accept Lord Jersey's parimutuel (totaiisator) views, pointing out that the Jockey Club is one of the most conservative bodies in the world. The Evening Standard declares the Government is now considering the possibility of the introduction of the totaiisator, the Exchequer deriving 10 per cent, from wagerings. In view of the present burden of taxation it is believed the public will favor the innovation. Critics strongly support a suggestion to license bookmakers, quoting the Australian methods in favor of the totaiisator and licensing bookmakers.—Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. Lord Jersey strongly protested against racing men assenting to the introduction of the pari mutuel (totaiisator) at British race meetings. A certain sequel would be a fine source of revenue for the Chancellor of iTe Exchequer. Once the Government controlled racing, good-bye to their liberty. Whatever they did let them keep racing free.
