CHARGE AGAINST SOLICITOR. By Telegraph—Press Association Auckland, Nov. 2D. In the Police Court, Arthur Cracknell, solicitor, was charged with having stolen £3OOO, the money of Oliver Read, and was remanded for eight days on bail of one surety of £lOOO or two of £'soo each. Chief Detective M’llveney stated that it was likely other similar charges would be preferred against accused. Bailwas not immediately forthcoming. STOWAWAYS DEALT WITH. Auckland, Nov. 29. Four young stowaways by the Port Kembla from Liverpool appeared before the court. The chief officer gave them a bad character, saying they would not work and misbehaved on the voyage. were ordered to be imprisoned for six weeks and then deported whence they came. CHARGE OF ASSAULT. Tauranga, Nov. 29. At the Police Court Christopher Niven, a local boat builder, was charged that on December 28 he did do grievous bodily harm to William Churchill, clerk of the court, by striking him on the head with an iron pipe and fracturing his skull. As Churchill is in hospital and was unable to appear the application by the police for a remand of eight, days was granted. Bail was allowed.
