BOXING.
TARANAKI ASSOCIATION. MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Taranaki Boxing Association was held last night, when Mr. E. Jackson presided over a' good attendance of members. It was resolved that the prize in the professional contest at Inglewood should be divided as follows: Winner, £7O; loser, £3O. The chairman stated that with several other members of the association he had visited the recent tournament at Eltham. There were some splendid amateurs seen in action, many of whom would delight New Plymouth patrons. The professional content proved very disappointing, indued, and he considered that this onli- proved how necessary it was that the local association should be particular), careful to only match men who had someu.ing at stake, preferably a championship. It was reported that matters in connection with the tournament to be held at Inglewood on December 15 r were well in hand. Both Greaves and Graham, the contestants in the professional bout, are reported to be in active training, and are each keen to secure the big end of the purse. The amateur bouts were definitely fixed as follows: Light, W. Coates (Omata) v. W, Coombes (Oaonui) ; welter, J. Willis (New Plymouth) v. Smith (New Plymouth) ; welter, Lumsden (Inglewood) v. Sharrock (Stratford) ; heavy. Mills (Riverlea) v - (New Plymouth) ; middle, W. W. Humphreyd (Eltham) v. P. O’Carroll (Inglewood). Mr. A. Maxwell has notified his acceptance of the position of referee. Letters were received from several amateurs in Inglewood who were anxious to box at the tournament, and it was z resolved to write to the Inglewood amateurs, thanking them and also asking them to hold themselves in readiness in case of emergency. It was decided that the boxers taking part in the professional contest should arrive in Taranaki on the Friday prior to the fight.
