THE RAILWAYMEN.
ACTION AS TO retrenchment. ■STATEMENT BY MR. MACK. By Telegraph.—’’rests Association Wellington, Last Night. Mr. Mack, secretary of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, interviewed, said he had nothing to say but the executive of the A.S.R.S. had finally decided the attitude it would take up. The feeling of the men he represented was clearly indicated 'by the resolutions that were being passed by the various branches, and some of had appeared in the Press. None of the men represented by him were receiving more than a living wage, and he naa every reason to believe the Government would take notice of this fact before any retrenchment proposals were put into operation which would affect the second division.- The railway service could not see how it would assist the Government in its retrenchment scheme to extend the hours, because that would throw out hundreds of men and increase the unemployment difficulty.
