A PROBLEM PLAY.
A QUESTION OF DECENCY. By Telegraph.—Press Assn —Copyright. Received Nov- 20, 5.5 p.m. Berlin, Nov. 19. After a sensational trial the court acquit red the management of the Little Theatre and eighteen actors and actresses responsible for the production of Arthur Schnitzler’s well-known play ‘ Regan.” The judge declared it was based on a moral idea, namely, the unattract ivene-s of illicit love. The trial lasted a fortnight. The prosecution asked for the imprisonment of the actors and actresses on the ground that the play was immoral, and that the music played between the acts was dangerous to public morals. During tlfe trial the judge and jury attended a special performance at the theatre, which was regarded as a court of law, applause and hissing being stopped by the police. During the trial priests, officials, authors, critics, and working men gave evidence. Professor Brunnen saying the play was a disgrace to the Fatherland. Dr. Oborn, a famous dramatic critic, said if “Regan” was indecent “Othello” was more so. —Aus.NJZ. Cable Assn-
