COMIC OPERA LAWS.
PENALTY FOR THE GLUTTON. Br Telegraph.—Press Asjn —Copyright Received Nov. 20, 5-5 p.m. London, Nov. 19. The Bavarian Government is introducing a curious measure to deal with gourmands, those ministering to gluttony being punishable by a fine equal to £lOO for the first offence, with a maximum of five years’ imprisonment on the second offence. The punishment for a glutton is not yet disclosed. The law will affect delicatessen shops and big restaurants. Another strange piece of legislation proposes that a prisoner sentenced to a short term will be allowed to pay fifty thousand marks instead of serving a month in gaol, thus saviag the State the cost of their keep. Poor people who are fined will be allowed to substitute work for the State in place of a fine.— Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assnfl.
