KAWAROA PARK.

WORK OF THE SOCIETY. THE ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the Kawaroa Park Society was held last night, when there was an attendance of about forty, including a number of ladies. The president (Mr. V. 11. , Beal) occupied the chair, and in opening proceedings said the attendance was a pleasing indication of the interest being taken in the affairs of the society. As the meeting was a public one, however, he would have liked to have seen a larger gathering to hear the report and' statement as to the society’s operations. Dealing with the annual report and balance-sheet (particulars of have already been published), the chaitr man said he thought all would agree that the committee in charge had had a very busy time, and had done a wonderful amount of work. The fact that the sum of £lll3 had beeh raised on the grounds during the year spoke for itself. The amount to the credit of the society at September 30 last was £324, and their total assets were £2553. He thought this was a wonderful performance for the band of workers who. during the nine years of existence of the society, had placed buildings and grounds at the disposal of the public, and built up a fine asset for the Borough Council. . ~ Continuing, Mr. Beal paid a tribute to the work of the society’s caretaker (Mr. .8. Coad), who had at heart rue interests of both the society and the public. During the year the society had spent a total of £445 in making the grounds more attractive as a playing area for children. Mr. Beal concluded by moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet.

Mr. J. R Hill, in seconding, said he thought the New Plymouth people owed a deep debt of gratitude to the society, and, as one who had attended many functions at Kawaroa, he expressed the opinion that he had not met a band of workers who were more determined to make a success of any function they undertook.

Mr. G. Moverley, as a former member of the society, who had returned/ to New Plymouth, congratulated the society in bringing the improvements at the park up-to-date, and said the appointments were quite in keeping with any to be found in the cities. He hoped* this was only a step towards making New Plymouth a watering place ol the west coast of the North Island, and perhaps in the future the society might take the lead m the matter of improving the seafront by the erection of a retaining wall—a scheme which was a little ambitious at present. The following officers for the ensuing year were appointed: Patron. Mr. A. Alexander; president. Mr. Beal; vicepresidents, Messrs. C. H. Burgess, E. P. Webster, F. Reston, H. E. Hill, H. Ward, N.
