HISTORIC HOME LOST.
CASTLE AND CONTENTS BURNED. DAMAGE TOTALS ONE MILLION. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Cepyrlgtt. London, Nov. 8. Kinnaird Castle, Forfarshire, the seat of Earl Southesk. has been destroyed by fire, believed to be due to a defect in the heating apparatus. It was a magnificent building in the style of an B Detent French chateau. Received Nov. 8, 8 p.m. London. Nov. 7. The loss through the Kinnaird Castle fire is estimated to amount to £1,000.000. Lady Catherine Bosanquet. the Earl’s daughter, ran into the burning bouse and rescued a picture by Raeburn worth £lO,OOO. Pictures scattered all over the castle included examples of Veiaaque, Van Dyck and Lely and almost all were destroyed, as was also the library, which contained many treasures and relics of high historic interest, but documents in the charter room were rescued.
