ALLEGED THEFTS.
SEVERAL MEN INVOLVED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Nov. 7. In the Police Court, William Leslie Foster, aged 28, was charged with having stolen goods valued at £781; William John Rushton (32) with having received goods valued at £662 8s 7d, knowing they were dishonestly obtained; James Barlow (29) with having received boots valued at 35s knowing they were dishonestly obtained; and Joseph Francis Dowling with having received goods valued at £l2 7s, knowing they were dishonestly obtained. Foster pleaded not guilty. James M. Caughey stated that Foster was in charge of Smith and Caughey’s mail order department for some years until the irregularities occurred. He admitted having sent out the goods to another man unknown to the firm, Rushton, who had opened a shop in Hamilton. The police had received stolen goods valued at £7Bl. Foster was committed for trial on charges of theft. Barlow pleaded guilty and was ordered to make restitution and come up for sentence within twelve months; Dowling pleaded guilty and was admitted to probation for two years and to make restitution. Rushton pleaded not guilty.
