THE ANNUAL MEETING. Tho annual general meeting of shareholders of the Equitable Building Society of New Plymouth was held in the Soldiers’ Club last j night, Mr. S. W. Shaw (chairman of directors) presiding. In moving the adoption of the report (already published) tho chairman remarked that this was the twentieth annual meeting or tic society, and next year they would come of age. It was a matter for congratulation on the part of shareholders that during all this time not a penny of the society’s money had been lost. The. society was now into their third group, and hoped to get a fourth commenced shortly, in this connection he hoped every member would do his bes» to take up shares in the No. 4 group. During the last few months the directors had spent a good deal of time in connection with me group, and had got out a booklet which, it was hoped, would be a considerable help to both shareholders and non-shareholders -in the matter of giving information about the society. At the present time, when money was so dear, the benefits offered through the society should be appreciated more than ever, and he believed they would be. There was n’o question that the money the society was offering was absolutely the cheapest that could be got. It was intended to unake an effort shortly, probably by advertising and canvass- I ing, and they hoped to get No. 4 group I • started with a full membership list. In conclusion, Mr. Shaw thanked his fellowdirectors for their support during the year, and remarked on the happy relations existing among the directorate. The motion was seconded by Mr. H. Coppen.
