SCOUTS’ SPORTS.

GATHERING AT KA VTA KO A PARK. BAY’S FUN FOR THE YOUNG. The unfavorable weather conditions in New Plymouth yesterday did not prevent a good crowd from attending at the Boy Scouts' and Girl Guides' sports at Kawaroa Park. A number of Scout troupe were represented, including the Central, St. Mary’s, Hinemoa, Inglewood, and the Hinemoa Girl Guides.

The Scouts were first assembled at the Park and then marched through the town as far as Currie Street, then returning to the Park. The early part of the sports progrtrame was taken up by the sunall children, and afterwards the Scouts and Guides gave displays of first aid, physical drill and signalling. Various competitions were carried out, the. boxing especially being enthusiastically cortested, some particularly good bouts being staged.

Besides the sports competitions a num&er of stalls were successfully conducted, brisk business being done in all departments. There were stalls for jumble articles, soft drinks and sweets, fancy goods, and a fishing pond,., cocoanut shies, and a variety of weight-gues-sing competitions.

The following were responsible for tte management of the various stalls: —Jumble stall. Mcsdames Early, Knott and Harding; fancy goods, Mrs. Airs and Miss T. Blackball; soft drinks, Messrs. T. Petty and T. Hoskin; sweets, Mrs. Beale; cocoanut shy, Messrs. Scoble and Booth; fish pond, Messrs. J. Hoskin, A. Taylor, G. Waters; sheep-guessing, Messrs. Hook and Harding.

Mrs. Moverley's orchestra rendered a pleasing programme of music during the day, and also provided the music for the dance in the evening. The dance was a most enjoyable function.

The proceeds of the gathering are to be divided between the Scout and Guide movement and the Kawaroa Park funds, and theseobjects should benefit considerably.

Final sst. 3ib. class: Field beat V. Utiger. Final s®t. 111 b. class: H. Billings beat V. N. Christensen. Following are the results of the competitive events:— Girl Scouts’ race, 50 yards.—P. Berridge 1. Fairy Scouts’ race. —-M. Berridge 1. Scouts’ mothers' race. —'Mrs. Dick 1. Potato race.—-Scoot Lobb 1, Scout Sherkelsor. 2. 100 yards open race.—S. Smith 1 (gold medal). 75 yards walking race.—C. Lister 1 (silver medal). Skipping, Peace Scouts. —Z. Moveriey (.355) Skipping, Fairy Scouts.—M. Cottam. (676) 1. Tug-of-war.—-Won by Inglewood team of six, who won a silver medal. First aid competition.—St. Mary's troop. Champion boy of day.—-R. Fields 1 (silver cup). Champion girl.—P. Berridge 1 (gold medal). Bean guessing.—D. K. Goldsworthy 1. Sheep guessing (correct weight 120ibs.) —H. C. Bailey (1201b5.) 1. Weight of cake (correct weight 6.Tribal. — E. 'Hooke 6y 2 ltos. 1. 1 Tte physical drill squad was won by a team from the Hinemoa troop. The winners in the boxing all belonged to the Hintxnoa troop, while the champion boy also belongs to the Hinemoa troop.
