The New Zealand golf championship meeting was continued at Shirley to-day in fine weather. The first round of the amateur championship was played with the following results: — J. C. Templar (Christchurch) beat J. Harold (Wanganui), 1 up. M. H. Godby (Christchurch) beat W. T. D. Harman (Christchurch), 5 and 4. H. Brasch (Otago) beat J. L. Speedy (Hutt), 2 and 1. C. B. Wight (St. Clair) beat R. 1). W. Wybourne (Waverley), 4 and 3. H. E. Crosse (Napier) beat J. W. Fair (Westport), 5 and 4. R. Rainger (Auckland) beat R. Tosswill (Christchurch), 3 and 2. J. Goss (Wanganui) beat C. A. .Seymour (Christchurch), 2 up. W. P. Anderson (Christchurch) bear. 0. E. Conway (Miramar), 2 up. D. McCormick (Auckland) beat S. Turner (Wanganui), 3 and 2. W. B. Colbeck (Auckland) beat A. L. Cropp (Oxristchurck), 2 up. A. L. Sime (Greyonoath) beat G. Saunders (Wanganui), 1 up. H. W. Macfarlane (Christchurch) beat R. O. Chesney (Wellington), 4 and 2. * B. B. Wood (Christchurch) beat L. D. Hurst (Miramar), 5 and 3. H. E. Wright (Timaru) beat N. Rout (Nelson), 6 and 4. C. Bidwill (Wairarapa) beat K. D. Duncan (Wellington), 5 and 3. J. L. Black (Hutt) beat T. H. Horton (Masterton), 1 up. A bogey handicap played in the afternoon was won by H. if. Crosse (Napier) 3 up. The professionals’ foursome bogey competition for a prize presented by the Goh’ Council was won by J. A. Clements (Napier) and E. S. Douglas (Miramar) 11 up. They went round in 68—a record for the course. Tte bogey is 79. . NEW PLYMOUTH v. HAWERA. Following are the teams for the New Plymouth—Hawera golf match which is to be played at the Walwakaiho links on Monday next (Labor Day) : New Plymouth.—Hasell, Austin, Simpson, Elliott, Johnson, Thomson, Daily, Burgess, Hutchen, Lawrey, Dalgleish, Bragg and ColHawera.—Pratt, Fletcher, Lewes, Glasson; Salmon, Boyes, Brodief McKenzie, Kururangi, Worsop, Suisted, Douglas and Ritchie. A four-ball match will be played in the morning, and the pairs in the afternooft.
