INGLEWOOD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Oct. 13. The Inglewood Railway Hotel was the scene of a very hearty send-off function to Mr. H. Sander on Tuesday afternoon. Mr. J. R. Sutherland, in calling on those assembled to drink Mr. Sander’s health, said that, while he deeply regretted having to say good-bye to a staunch good fellow like Mr. Sander, it at the same time gave him a fair measure of compensating pleasure to be able to assure that gentleman of the warm feelings of goodwill felt for him here, and, in proof of that allegation, to present him with the purse and passports contained therein, that his friends of this part of Taranaki begged him to accept. Mr. Gamlin seconded the motion in few and forceful expressions of endorsement to the mover’s remarks, and further tribute on his own account to the worthiness of the recipient. The motion was carried with acclamation. Mr. Sanders, in reply, denied in toto all title to the very nice things that had been said about him. He did not recognise the picture drawn, but one thing he could do —remember always, with very hearty feelings of goodwill, the good fellows of Inglewood, and try, in his small way, to live up to the high character with which his friends had credited him. For Wednesday’s sale the Farmers’ Co-op. yards were well filled with stock, and although rain prevailed there was a good attendance. The sale did not differ much from recent experiences; if anything, the demand for dairy cattle was not quite so keen, although a record was established when a two-year-old grade Jersey heifer (springing) sold under the hammer at £33. In other lots, two-year Friesians, springing, made £l6; springing cows, in poor fettle, £6 to £8; better quality, £lO to £l2 10s; other springing cows, £lB to £24. Jersey appearance was looked for. Empty Friesian heifers, £5 15s; empty Jersey heifers, £6 10s; two-year steers, from £2 10s.
