THE WESTERN PARK CLUB. INAUGURAL MEETING. At a meeting held in the Soldiers' Club. New Plyimouth, last night. It was decided to form, a Western Park Cricket Club, and encouraging reports were received of the canvass made for members since tire proposal was first considered. Mr. J. S. S. Medley presided. The following officers were elected: Presi; dent, Mr. F. Eayiy; vice-presidents, Messrs. J 8. S. Medley, A. L. Humphries, A. Alexander, E. Hine, and H. Brookman; secretary and treasurer, Mr. C. Fairbrother; club captain. Mr. F. H. Robertson; vice, Mr. A. B. Macdonald; committee, Messrs. A. Harrison. H vV. Stephens, H. R. Wright, J. G. Kinnear, and club captain, vice-captain, and chairman; auditor, Mr. E. L. Humphries. The subscription for playing members was fixed at £1 ss, reducible to £l, If paid before November .30; honorary uneml>ers 10s 6d. It was decided to affiliate with the North Taranaki Cricket Association, and Messrs. Robertson and Macdonald were appointed delegates. A combined practice and working bee will be held on Jhe park grounds to-morrow, commencing at* 2 p.m. In discussing prospects for the season, members expressed the opinion that possibly sufficient members would be enrolled to enable tte club to put two teams In the competition.

"That is the reason why Australia with 40 first-class unen, can defeat England with 300. That, also, is one evil of large numbers. Everyone knows that there are five counties in England who have no right to representation in first-class cricket, and when ti e English team was selected some of the players had fictitious averages piled up on bad bowling.”
