ENGLISH TUBF. 1 THE CESAREWITCH STAKES. By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright. London, Oct. 12. The Cesarewltch Stakes resulted: Tutoi 1, Charlesville 2, Harrier 3. Seventeen started. Received Oct. 13, 5.5 p.m. , London, Oct. 12. i Jelllss Tode Tutoi in the Cesarewitch, Bui- • lock rode Charlevllle, and Donoghue rode Harrier. Tishey was last, being nearly a. quar- : ter of a mile behind the winner, who won by four lengths, the second horse being five lengths away. Soranus has been scratched for the Cam- ■ bridgeshire. According to the Dominion, the new sys- ■ tem of racecourse detectives under the control of the Racing Conference will operate as from November 1. The appointments are not to be announced until October 17, but there seems little doubt that Messrs. A. Ward and J. Torrance, late detectives in the Wellington police ; office, and Mr. J. Cullen, of Auckland, will ; get the positions, with the first-named acting 1 as chief. In England recently a mistake was made In the identity of two horses when being ’ transferred after a sale, and in consequence Dutch Toy ran in a race as Nan San. The ; b&ckers of the supposed Nan San, who fin- ■ isheJ nowhere, asked for a ruling as to their bets, and Tatteraall’s Committee decided they lost. This on the score that they hifrl the cJiance of the error not being found out. The ruling was taken exception to in many quarters, the Winning Post being strong on the subject. It says the contention of Tattersail’s Chib is ridiculous, as Duller volunteered the correction In the first place, and would have done so if Dutch Toy (running as Nan San) had won. In brief, the bookmakers were to be paid over a horse that did not weigh out, and would not have had to pay over the one . that did even If it had won.
