FRANCE’S DEBT.
A LARGE DEFICIT. GOVERNMENT ANXIOUS. FEAR OF DEFEAT, By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Received Oct. 6, 5.5 p.m. London, Oct. 5. The Paris correspondent of the Daily Express states that France’s 1922 Budget is an obstacle to M. Briand’s going to "Washington, and may cause the Government’s fall. There is a deficit of £100,000,000. The financial committee of the Chamber of Deputies claim that the special allowance to Government officials, which is costing the country £28,500,000 annually, should be stopped before new taxes are created or loans floated. The Government at first approved of this, but now they say the cost of living has not fallen sufficiently to justify tne stoppage of the allowance. If M. Briand goes to Washington he will only remain a fortnight, and M. Viviani will then head the French delegation. —Aus.-N.Z. Cable Assn. LOAN TO BE ISSUED. Received Oct. 6, 5.5 p.m. Paris, Oct. 5. The Government is issuing-a three milliard franc loan on October 24.
