A FIERCE BATTLE. WARSHIPS TAKE PART. By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, Oct. 3. According to the Azerbaijan information bureau in London, thousands of casualties occurred in a fierce battle bebetween the Bolshevist troops and the Moslems at Baku. It appears the Azerbaijan insurgents hoisted the national flag, inscribed “Independence or death.” The Bolshevist warships in the Caspian thereupon fired on the town, from which, after stubborn fighting, the Tartars retired to Azerbaijan. A Red regiment joined the insurgents. It is reported that the Bolshevists have offered to negotiate.
