PRICE OF SUGAR.
minister Announces reduction. A NEW CONTRACT MADE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. A statement on the supply of sugar to the Dominion was made in the House of Representatives this afternoon by the Hon. E. P. Lee, president of the Bokrd of Trade. During the course of his statement Mr. Lee quoted figures to disprove the charges that the Colonial Suggr Company had made huge, profits. The position was that the company had not made great profits out of refined sugar; if the company had made any profit at all it had been done out of raw sugar and not out of the manufactured products. In the past no country enjoyed such cheap sugar as New Zealand and in the new contract arranged by the Government with the Sugar Company that feature would be continued, for the price agreed upon was 4|d per pound. That rate comes into operation on November 7 next, at which price there would be ample supplies on hand.
