EDUCATION AND FINANCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Carterton, Sept. 30. At a meeting of the South Wairarapa School Committees’ Association the following resolution was unanimously passed: “That in view of the present financial situation this meeting of the South Wairarapa School Committees’ Association wishes to emphasise the firm opinion that nothing should be done to the detriment of the recent great improvements in the education system. FINE FOR TOHUNGAISM. Wairoa, Sept. 30. Rita Poipoi, arrested on a warrant and charged with tohungaism in connection with an alleged gold find at Opoutama, elected to be dealt with summarily and, pleading guilty, was fined £lO and costs.
