ATHLETIC AND CYCLING UNION. (From Our Own Correspondent.)

Sept. 23. The annual meeting of the Taranaki Centre of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was held at Eltham last night, representatives from the following clubs being present: Eltham, Stratford, Oeo, Manaia, Riverlea, Kaponga, Opunake, Midhirst, Auroa, Kapuni, Urenui and the Clifton Football Club. The annual report, as follows, was adopted: “In presenting the twelfth annual report and balance-sheet the executive are pleased to state that the year 1920-1921 has been a successful one. Twenty-one clubs were affiliated with the centre this season, and, judging by the entries for the different meetings, and the attendance of the public at same, clubs see the advantage of joining up with the centre. Results plainly show better competitors and better attendance, and the sports are run as they should be. The executive wish to impress upon clubs the necessity of being represented at this meeting, which is to be held at Eltham on Thursday, Sept. 22. Taranaki has made application to hold the championship meeting this coming season. Clubs that cannot be present would be well advised to get a proxy from, one of the executive, or let the secretary know who the proxy is before September 22. The balance-sheet discloses receipts amounting to £6O 6s 2d, and expenditure £2l 5s 3d, leaving a credit balance of £39 Us.” The following officers were elected: Patron, Mr. O. Hawken, M.P. (Eltham); president, Mr. J. McLeod (New Plymouth); vice-presidents, Messrs. A. O. Casey (Kaponga), T. C. Stanners (Eltham) ; committee, Messrs. J. A. Hansen (chairman), D. Malone, C. Burke, J. Patterson, H. Nuttall, W. S. Heyes, O. Manley, J. Shotter, and one member from Patea to be elected; secretary and treasurer, Mr. A. Melville; handicapper, Mr. C. Burke; auditor, Mr. R. S. Cook (Kaponga). The secretary’s honorarium was fixed at £lO 10s.

A resolution that the centre be transferred to Eltham was lost, Kaponga retaining the headquarters.
