THE ONGAROTO MURDER.
FURTHER EVIDENCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Hamilton, Sept. 15. There is still great interest being displayed in the Ongaroto murder trial. The evidence was the same as was taken .at the previous trials, regarding the finding of the body, incidents at the camp, and the two-up school. Hamilton, Last Night. At the Ongaroto murder trial Thomas Donnelly, a new witness, said that during September last he was ganger in charge of a river gang on the night Elliott re r turned. Prisoner wanted to get away, but had not enough money to go. He asked EUiott to buy his (prisoner’s) gun for £4, and he reduced the price to £2, at which Elliott bought it. After the deal witness went outside, and prisoner followed and said by the whare: “God, him the mean ; I will get even with the mean yet.” Prisoner used to get stores in witness’ name, witness deducting the cost ofl his wages. Prisoner was very fond ol shooting, more for the sake of shooting than for game. In answer tq accnaed’a counsel witness said the term used by prisoner in relation to Elliott wks just rough and ready, and familiar to bushmen. z Counsel will address the jury to-morrow.
