PRICE OF SUGAR.
SO BIG FALL PROBABLE.
ADVICE TO SECURE STOCKS.
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Wellington, August 30.
The price of sugar is not likely to be adjusted before November, said the Alinister of Industries and Commerce yesterday. Tt seems that many people are buying sugar b.y the pound and halfpound at present, because they anticipate a fall in price. Ido not think they are wise. There i* plenty of sugar now, but nobody can »ay with certainty that there will be plenty later on. We have seen in the past that unexpected difficulties may arise. People who can afford to lay in a stock of sugar now and who fail to do so will not deserve much sympathy if they are short again when the jam season comes on.
The Minister added that the movements of the sugar market had justified those who contended that no big fall in the local price was probable. The prices of Java and Cuban sugar had risen, and, moreover, (Cuba and , Java were not turning out the quality of sugar New Zealand people were accustomed to.
